An exciting opportunity came up earlier this month for All Round Supplies to donate one of our steel poles to the brand new Rural Fire Service Station being constructed on Albatross Road in West Nowra.
The new station is part of a $900,000 upgrade to the Shoalhaven Emergency Management Centre. Currently situated on the 6.5 hectare site are the fire control centre, RFS, State Emergency Services and Emergency Management Centre, which coordinates events such as bushfires and floods. The upgrade will turn the location into an emergency centre hub, with extensions to existing buildings, and the addition of Marine Rescue and Surf Lifesaving, as well as the new Rural Fire Service Station.
Constructed by Momentum Built, the new Fire Service Station is 945 square meters, with a 5-vehicle workshop, new office facilities, a function room, kitchen and storage. It will house a Toyota Troop Carrier and several large category-one fire appliances, which measure up to 7.8 meters. The construction of the new station will allow better coverage and quicker response to West Nowra, out through Braidwood Road and as far South as Tomerong and Falls Creek.
Mid-way through the station’s construction, Mark Coombe contacted All Round Supplies in the search for a timber pole for the station’s yard. When our Managing Director, Earl Palfrey, heard about the request, he was more than happy to help out and arranged for the donation of a steel pole. The NSW Fire Service do an incredible job, and this was a fantastic opportunity to help out in whatever way we could.
Mark was incredibly pleased with the offer, commenting that he was “overwhelmed by the generosity of All Round Supplies.” The pole was moved from our branch in Nowra to the station’s yard, and will be used to hang the heavy-duty fire hoses out in the sun to dry after each use.
